Marketing / Communications Coordinator

Tourism Walla Walla is accepting applications for a Marketing Communications Coordinator. Position is responsible for marketing communications to potential visitors and to travel related businesses in the area.  Applications may be emailed to Rpeck@wallawalla.org

JOB TITLE: Marketing Communications Coordinator - Tourism Walla Walla

Reports to: Executive Director

Status: Full-time exempt

The Marketing Communications Coordinator is responsible for Tourism Walla Walla’s effective delivery of communications via specific social media that Tourism Walla Walla engages in, communicating various stakeholder services activities programs available to Walla Walla Valley visitor businesses and in administrative support for the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Two or four year degree from an academic institution and or one to two years related communications or marketing experience.
  • Good organizational, written communications, and oral skills
  • Multi task oriented
  • Experience in sales, travel, or visitor industry preferred
  • Ability to occasionally travel outside the region

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and manage a communication plan that may include (but not necessarily be limited to)
    • Consumer and industry / stakeholder newsletters
    • The organizations consumer and industry websites
    • Tourism "Share Walla Walla facebook"
    • Twitter
    • Pinterest
    • You Tube
  • Cooperate and work with lodging businesses in the Walla Walla area in the solicitation and securing of group and meeting business.
  • Assist in the coordination and logistics of press / media visits and familiarizations visits to the Walla Walla regio.
  • Responsible for communicating and securing industry stakeholder participation on Tourism Walla Wallaconsumer websit.
  • Plan and coordinate ongoing training programs and seminars related to customer services, travel marketing skills, and services designed to improve the visitor industry in Walla Walla area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Marketing / Communications Coordinator Proposed Job Responsibilities

Administrative – 40%

Phones

  1. Answer phones when in office
  2. Return all messages concerning general business and inquiries

Visitor Information

  1. Prepare and send from office any special consumer requests
  2. Send distributor special orders – large quantities requested by groups or other visitor organizations
  3. Be responsible for the downloading of any data base lead generation received from cooperative marketing programs
  4. Oversee the delivery and distribution of the annual Visitor Guide.
    a. Also deliver guides or reallocate depending on supply issues.

Miscellaneous

  1. Board minutes – record and prepare for approval
  2. Attend all Marketing Comm. Meetings, take minutes and prepare them for ED.
  3. Refill postage machine credit
  4. Create Monthly report of Social Media and non-lodging indicators
  5. Responsible for office supplies

Social Media & Communications Efforts – 40%

Consumer Website

  1. Maintaining the site
    a. Make corrections to any identified errors regarding on the site
    b. Keep the homepage current
    c. Update info and new businesses, attractions and highlighted information on homepage. Rotate featured listings every week
    d. Post weekly blog information and maintain relationship with bloggers, making certain they submit the blogs
    e. Monitor listings
    f. Be responsible for selling of online website advertising / listing
  2. Calendar of Events
    a. In concert with Visitor Center lead info specialist be responsible for maintaining the Calendar of
    Events via “Trumba”.
    b. Make corrections as necessary.
  3. Monthly Consumer e-newsletters
    a. Create editorial calendar
    b. Create and send e-newsletter
    c. Analyze open and click-through data for consumer newsletters

Facebook/Twitter: Develop plan for effectively delivering communications to potential and past visitors via Facebook and Twitter
a. Post every weekday.
b. Identify compelling ideas that garner consumer interest in the destination
c. Monitor posts and respond appropriately to comments
d. Review Facebook and Twitter insights
e. Analyze Facebook and Twitter data

You Tube: Develop a plan for creation of regularly schedule videos
a. Schedule video shoots
b. Manage the YouTube website

Industry Newsletter: Develop plan for creation of an effective communication newsletter to industry businesses and interested stakeholders
a. Create an effective template
b. Identify and write impactful stories and images
c. Plan for monthly delivery

Marketing & Sales Activities –10%

  1. Trade Show Participation
    a. Work with E.D. to identify Trade shows that have the strongest potential to generate additional visitor business to the Walla Walla area.
    b. Be responsible for the preparation, coordination and logistics involved with approved trade shows
    c. In conjunction with E.D. determine which shows will be covered by this position
    d. Ensure all follow up (data compilation, specific action related to the event) are completed in a timely fashion.
    e. Make recommendation to E.D. and Marketing Committee for possible future participation from trade show historical participation
  2. Website Sales / Marketing
    a. Be the main point of contact for all revenue generating programs related to TWW’s consumer website.
    b. Solicit new revenue opportunities with businesses that may not presently be participating
    c. Oversee and maintain solid relationships with existing tourism related businesses participating in website programs

Miscellaneous Activities –10%

  1. Assist with TWW in ancillary activities and services beneficial to the visitor industry in Walla Walla such as:
    a. Serving on the Feast Walla Walla Program Committee
    b. Serving on the Performing Arts Committee.
  2. Website Sales / Marketing
    a. Be the main point of contact for all revenue generating programs related to TWW’s consumer website.
    b. Solicit new revenue opportunities with businesses that may not presently be participating
    c. Oversee and maintain solid relationships with existing tourism related businesses participating in website programs
  3. Stakeholder Assistance
    a. Assist in the development and coordination a visitor industry / stakeholder training program.
    b. Identify an effective industry training program or seminar.
    c. Be responsible for the communications, logistics and operation of a training program.
  4. Other Duties as Assigned
